Craiglee Shiraz 2019

Description

New Release | 96 Points – Jane Faulkner

Craiglee is one of the most important historic vineyards in Australia, with vines planted there since 1863. Located in Sunbury, on the outskirts of Melbourne, Craiglee continues to produce some of Australia’s finest cool-climate wines under the ownership of Pat and Dianne Carmody.

Craiglee is one of the finest examples of cool-climate Shiraz produced in Australia, and the 2019 Craiglee Shiraz is already drawing plenty of attention. An aromatic and impeccably structured Shiraz; the intensity of flavour, balance and lively bright fruit ensures this is a wine with a long life ahead of it.

“96 Points. If Pat Carmody can’t make great shiraz, then we should all shut up shop. He’s only been doing so at Craiglee for, oh, about 40-plus years. There’s a DNA imprint to this, with a whorl of dark fruit, warm spices shot through, cedary oak and wafts of red roses. Very savoury though, fuller bodied with archetypal Craiglee tannins supple, shapely and ripe. Yes, a lovely wine made by a legend. 13.5% alc. Screwcap”– Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion 2024.
