Ergo Sum Shiraz 2017

Description

96 Points | “Impressive” – Jeni Port

Ergo Sum came about through a joint venture between two legendary winemakers; Michel Chapoutier of France’s Rhone Valley and Rick Kinzbrunner of Giaconda in Beechworth, north-east Victoria.

Biodynamically farmed and grown on the granite soils of Beechworth in the foothills of the Victorian Alps, the 2017 Ergo Sum Shiraz is another high quality example of Beechworth Shiraz opening with lifted aromas of blackberry fruit, spice and black pepper. The palate offers impressive fruit concentration with notes of blackberry, dark plum, chocolate and licorice, with some firm, fine tannin enhancing the structure. A Beechworth Shiraz with approachability but subtle power, this will offer wonderful drinking over the next decade.

“96 Points. Vegan friendly. A wine that calls for more time in bottle and a decant before broaching. Starts dense and taut, but as it relaxes it loosens up, revealing a cool elegance. Baked plum, red and blue berries with licorice notes, florals and spice slowly transform on the palate into a lightly savoury style, all the while maintaining an even keen of fine tannin and balanced oak. Impressive. Cork. 14% alc. Drink: 2022 – 2031. $68”- Jeni Port, Halliday Wine Companion 2023.
